Whedon’s: The Avengers (Quick Thoughts)

I saw The Avengers over the weekend and felt Joss Whedon deserved a congratulations. My anticipation had been building with every after-credit scene, following each respective Marvel movie. However, after the teaser, the Super Bowl spot, and the first full trailer, I was left feeling like the story had been over-hyped. How could any director, let alone Joss Whedon, provide adequate screen time to so many superheroes? It wouldn’t be possible. Not until the second full trailer did I get excited and think it could actually be done, and would actually be done right.
Having seen it, I’m now left pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I assumed Whedon had elements of action, humor, and nerd, but no idea at the scale he’d need pull off something of this magnitude. All with an eye for detail. Granted, it was handed to him in pieces, but he was able to assemble those pieces, without sacrificing the story. Furthermore, he was able to draw out noteworthy performances by; Hiddleston and Downey Jr. (obviously), but suprisingly, by Ruffalo and Renner. What Renner was able to do with a blatantly useless, Hawkeye, is commendable.

So, congratulation, Joss, you managed to direct a massive, action-packed blockbuster, while not only making it fun, but doing it well.
[Spoiler Alert:] Meet the best part of the movie.
